Eric Meola is a renowned American photographer who is celebrated for his masterful use of color and light. Born in 1946 in Syracuse, New York, Meola’s passion for photography took root in the 1960s, leading him to become one of the most recognized visual artists of his generation. His career took off after working with major publications like Time, Life, and National Geographic, but he is perhaps best known for his association with Bruce Springsteen, having captured the iconic Born to Run album cover. His vibrant and dramatic compositions, whether of landscapes, people, or cultures, have solidified his reputation as a pioneer in color photography.

Meola’s work extends beyond editorial and commercial photography; he is also a successful author with several critically acclaimed books. Among his best-known publications are The Last Places on Earth, which showcases remote and stunning landscapes, Fierce Beauty, a breathtaking collection of images from Samoa, and Streets of Fire, which explores his time photographing Springsteen. His most celebrated book, India: In Word & Image, is a testament to his deep appreciation for color, capturing the rich hues and moods of India’s people and landscapes. Today’s talk, Moods of Color, delves into the emotional power of color in photography, exploring how different tones and contrasts can evoke profound reactions and tell compelling stories through imagery.
